Hi Duane…received my base in todays mail. It fits perfect and Ive immensely enjoyed oiling and cleaning my 1920’s Singer-66 today, installing in the new base and making some stitches! Great to hear this old machine run again. I thank you for providing this product, useful for so many machines without paying an arm and leg. Thanks! I will be leaving positive feedback of course. Regards, Dave

Duane, I want to take a minute out of my day and say 👍! The knee bar you created or helped to create, is on the mark!!! You, and your metal fabricators did a fantastic job with a reproduction piece. I left you an awesome review, and just wanted to say Thank you - for taking the bold step and making these well needed units. I do appreciate the workmanship that went into it, and it is a perfect fit!! Also, thank you for the great service, and combined shipping with the grub screws - it was a smooth transaction, and everything arrived today in great shape. 👍. Len

Hello, Duane! I just wanted to send a happy "thank you" for this sewing machine. When my mother-in-law received it, she called me, absolutely sobbing to thank me. Thank you for helping me find the perfect gift for that someone who has it all. It unbroke her heart a little, to recuperate a lost treasure. Sincerely, Stacey H

Duane, Happy New Year! This has been a real adventure. First of all, you are a genius at packing. What a marvel and kudos to you! It took me over an hour to unpack my machine. Secondly, I received the machine on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Because of a backlog at the Fedex warehouse in New Wales, PA, it sat for over a week. Thirdly, the key works, I have attached the handle and am about to attach the inside pieces. I have to re-learn how to thread the machine since it has been years since I have sewn. Thanks to you. I am on my way to hemming curtains and undertaking even more challenging projects. God bless you. Mary Jane Larson

Dear Duane, We are so impressed with this machine! My Wonderful Wife, Mickie has her favorite machine purchased new when we were first married 42 years ago. It recently quit sewing very well again, so she found my Mom's old machine in the basement and used it... but it wasn't working very well either. I fixed both of these, our machine had a loose feeder dog & lost some copper shims I put under it years ago. Mom's Singer 66 wrinkle with threaded stitch adjustment only needed a bobbin winder adjustment. This renewed my interest and I found your 201-2 and I read your servicing care message and I made my decision to purchase it. I am so glad I did... I started working with this quiet wonderful machine... and Mickie took it for a test drive too. Now I can't get it back she is so excited about the way it sews! Such beautiful stitches, and it just makes the user feel so in control of the beautiful sewing job it does. Wow! So, I want to thank you very much. We are so happy and excited to have this very nice machine. We will be back for more supplies etc. We like your family picture too! We had 5 Children all grown and married now and we have 14 Grandchildren too. Have a Merry Christmas! (2020) Sincerely, Glenn and Micki

 PACKING YOUR MACHINE FOR SHIPPING

HELLO, I AM GOING TO TELL YOU HOW TO PACK YOUR SEWING MACHINE FOR SHIPPING TO THE NEW OWNER.
BE SURE TO UNPACK DO NOT LEAVE MACHINE PACKED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME IT NEEDS AIR TOO.  THERE ARE DIFFERENT WAYS OF PACKING YOUR MACHINE, I AM GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW I PACK AND HAVE HAD GREAT LUCK WITH IT.  DEPENDING ON THE MACHINE AND THE SIZE OF THE CASE WILL MATTER ON HOW MUCH PACKING YOU USE.  I USE BUBBLE WRAP AND PEANUTS BUT IF
YOU DON'T HAVE THAT THEN USE WHAT YOU HAVE,
THE MAIN POINT HERE IS THAT YOU DON'T WANT THE MACHINE TO BE ABLE TO MOVE AROUND DURING SHIPPING, THAT IS WHAT
DAMAGES THE MACHINE AND CASE.

THE FIRST THING YOU CAN DO IS TAKE OFF THE SPOOL PIN COVER IF THE MACHINE HAS A REMOVABLE SPOOL PIN COVER LIKE THE SINGER 221 FEATHERWEIGHT, TO BE SURE IT DOESN'T GET DAMAGED OR DAMAGE THE CASE.  I PACK MOST WITH IT ON AND IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE IT ON JUST MAKE SURE TO PUT ENOUGH PACKING ON TOP OF MACHINE SO IT FITS SNUG WHEN YOU CLOSE THE LID.  JUST REMEMBER IF THE MACHINE IS IN A CARRING CASE, YOU WANT TO HAVE  ENOUGH PACKING IN AND AROUND THE MACHINE SO IT DOES NOT MOVE.

I REPAIR THESE OLD MACHINES SO I BUY AND SELL A LOT OF THEM AND I HAVE SEEN SOME REALLY POOR PACKING AND THERE IS NOTING WORSE THAN TO SPEND $100+ ON A MACHINE THAT YOU PURCHASED AND GETTING IT AND BECAUSE OF POOR PACKING THE MACHINE ARRIVES WITH DAMAGE AND THE SELLER SAYS "YOU SHOULD HAVE PUT INSURANCE ON IT".  I WANT TO SAY TO EVERYBODY; "INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER DAMAGE IT IS CAUSED BY POOR PACKING, THAT IS THE SELLER OR PACKING COMPANY'S RESPONCEABILTY.  INSURANCE IS PAYED IF THE SHIPPING
COMPANY IS RESPONCEABLE FOR THE DAMAGE, OF COURSE THIS MAY VERY DEPENDING ON WHO THE INSURER IS.

WHAT I AM POINTING OUT IS, IF YOU PACK IT WELL, IT WILL ARRIVE IN THE SAME CONDITION
AS PURCHASED.  TAKE YOUR MACHINE AND WRAP IT IN BUBBLE WRAP OR WHAT EVER YOU HAVE. DEPENDING ON THE CASE YOU MAY NEED TO TRIM WRAP SO MACHINE FITS INTO CASE PROPER.  THIS IS THE SMALL BUBBLES IF YOU ARE PACKING WITHOUT CASE CAN USE THE BIGGER BUBBLES.

I TAKE PLASTIC WRAP OR PLASTIC BAG AND WRAP AROUND ATTACHMENT BOX AND THEN RUN TAPE AROUND TO HELP SUPPORT THE BOX. IF YOU HAVE OTHER ATTACHMENTS WRAP THEM AND YOU MAY BE ABLE TO FIT IN CASE UNDER THE SMALL TRAY BEFORE PUTTING MACHINE IN.
I ALSO PUT THE BOOK IN A PLATIC BAGGIE AND IF NEEDED PUT BETWEEN CARDBOARD AND CAN BE PUT ALONG THE SIDE OF CASE.

IF THE ATTACHMENTS WON'T FIT IN CASE WRAP AND PUT IN SHIPPING BOX.  THE FOOT CONTROL CAN GO AS SEEN OR WRAP WITH BUBBLE WRAP AND LAY ALONG THE BACK SIDE OF MACHINE IN CASE.  IF YOU HAVE A FULL TRAY I WRAP FOOT CONTROL AND IF IT WILL FIT IN TRAY WILL PUT IT THERE OR LAY ALONG SIDE OF MACHINE BELOW TRAY.

NOW THAT EVERYTHING IS PACKED SAFE IN THE CASE, I TAKE MORE BUBBLE WRAP AND  PACK SIDES AROUND MACHINE AND ON TOP SO THAT WHEN I SHUT THE LID IT IS SNUG.  NOW NOTHING IS GOING TO MOVE WHILE BE SHIPPED. TAKE SOME BUBBLE WRAP AND WRAP OUTSIDE OF CASE AND PUT A LITTLE UNDER HANDLE TO PROTECT FROM LEAVING A MARK ON CASE.

AFTER YOU GET IT TAPED TAKE THE TAPE AND RUN  A LINE ALL THE WAY AROUND IT TO HELP SUPPORT LID AND CASE, I USUALLY RUN A LINE ON BOTH SIDE OF THE HANDLE.

PEANUTS OR PACKING OF YOUR CHOICE ON THE BOTTOM I LAY MACHINE IN ON IT'S SIDE SET MACHINE IN BOX AND NOW PACK AROUND SIDES.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT PEANUTS IS IT GIVES THE MACHINE AN AIR RIDE BUT BALLED UP NEWS PAPER, PLASTIC BAGS WILL DO SIMILAR AS LONG AS YOU USE ENOUGH.  I HAVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK FROM MY CUSTOMERS ON MY PACKING AND HAVE HAD ALL ITEMS MAKE IT TO THEIR BUYERS AS
PURCHASED.

I ALWAYS SAY PACK IT LIKE YOUR PACKING FOR YOURSELF! I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU AS A PACKER AND IF YOU ARE A BUYER OF MINE THAT IT GIVES YOU A PIECE OF MIND ON HOW YOUR PURCHASE WILL BE PACKED.
THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK,

DUANE

THE HISTORY OF THE SEWING MACHINE

MADE AND DISTRIBUTED BY PFAFF HANDEISGESELLSCHAFT FUR HAUSHALTNAHMASCHINEN MBH

GRITZNERSTRABE 11, 7500 KARISRUHE 41, WEST GERMANY

PEOPLE WHO OWN A MODERN PFAFF ELECTRONIC, A SEWING MACHINE WITH WHICH THEY CAN NOT ONLY SEW THEIR OWN CLOTHES, BUT ALSO EMBROIDER AND DARN THEM, SELDOM STOP TO THINK HOW LABORIOS AND TIME-CONSUMING SEWING WAS A YEARS AGO.  SEWING MACHINES DID OF COURSE EXIST BEFORE THAN, BUT WERE HARDLY KNOWN AND SCARCELY TO BE FOUND.
AT THE TURN OF THE CENTURY, EVEN OUR GRANDMOTHERS OFTEN HAD TO BE CONTENT WITH THE SLOW AND NOISY LONG-SHUTTLE MACHINE, WHICH OF COURSE WAS TREADLE-OPERATED.  NEVERTHELESS, THIS METHOD OF SEWING ONE'S OWN CLOTHES WAS A LUXURY COMPARED TO THE METHODS USED BEFORE THAT TIME.

FOR MORE THAN 5000 YEARS, WOMEN AND GIRLS, TAILORS, SHOEMAKER, AND SADDLERS KNEW NO OTHER WAY OF SEWING THAN BY HAND.  OUR ILLUSTRATION SHOWS A TAILOR'S SHOP ABOUT THE YEAR 1640.  WHEN MAN FIRST BEGAN MAKING CLOTHES, HE KNEW OF NO SUCH THING AS A SEWING NEEDLE.
FOR HIS SEWING -- IF ONE MAY CALL IT THAT - HE USED SHAPE PIECES OF BONE, THORNS, AND OTHER POINTED OBJECTS.  THESE TOOLS WERE USED TO MAKE HOLES IN THE EDGES OF ANIMAL SKINS, AND LATER ON IN PLAITED OR WOVEN PARTS.  IN ORDER TO HOLD THE VARIOUS PARTS TOGETHER , STRAPS, BAST FIBERS OR CORD WERE LACED THROUGH THESE HOLES.

THROUGHOUT THE AGES MAN HAS ENDEAVORED TO MAKE CLOTHING THAT IS NOT ONLY PRACTICAL BUT ALSO ATTRACTIVE, FOR THE ORIGIN OF ALL CLOTHING IS THE HUMAN DESIRE FOR
ADORNMENT.
14TH CENTURY SEWING TECHNIQUES WERE IMPROVED BY AN IMPORTANT INVENTION, NEEDLE WITH AN EYE. 1370 WAS WHEN THE FIRST NEEDLE WITH AN EYE MADE FROM STEEL WIRE MANUFACTURERS OF NUREMBERG.  WHEN THE 1ST ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO INVENT A MACHINE WHICH COULD SEW, PEOPLE'S REACTIONS WERE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.  THE ATTITUDE OF THE PEOPLE AT THAT TIME TOWARDS INVENTORS OF SEWING MACHINES WAS HOSTILE RATHER THAN FRIENDLY.
THE EFFORTS OF THOSE PIONEERS WERE REGARDED WITH A SNEER AS TOMFOOLERY OR EVEN WITCHCRAFT.  IT IS NO WONDER THAT VERY FEW OF THEM ACHIEVED SUCCESS.  ALTHOUGH THEY WERE OFTEN FORCED TO SACRIFICE THEIR HEALTH, THE HAPPINESS OF THEIR FAMILIES, THEIR EARNINGS, OR EVEN THEIR ENTIRE SAVINGS IN THE COURSE OF THEIR EXPERIMENTS.

THE EARLIEST DESCRIPTION OF A SEWING MACHINE DATES BACK TO THE MIDDLE OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY, A TIME WHEN EVEN CHILDREN'S DRESS REFLECTED THE SPLENDOR OF LATE BAROQUE FASHION.  THIS MACHINE IS SAID TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE A RUNNING STITCH.
THE GERMAN WEISENTHAL IS SAID TO HAVE INVENTED THIS SEWING MACHINE IN 1755.  IT HAD A NEEDLE WITH AN EYE IN THE MIDDLE WHICH MADERSPERGER IS SAID TO HAVE USED LATER.  SOME YEARS LATER, IN 1790, AN ENGLISHMAN BY THE NAME OF THOMAS SAINT BUILT
A MACHINE WHICH SEWED A CHAINSTITCH SEAM.

ABOUT 1880 A GERMAN CALLED BALTASAR KREMS OF MAYEN IN THE RHINELAND BUILT HIMSELF A CHAINSTITCH SEWING MACHINE FOR SEWING NIGHT CAPS.  HIS MACHINE WAS TECHNICALLY
HIGHLY ADVANCED FOR THAT PERIOD.  IT ALREADY HAD A CONTINUOUS MATERIAL FEED, A CRANK-OPERATED NEEDLE BAR AND CERTAIN OTHER INTERESTING MECHANISMS SOME OF WHICH ARE STILL USED ON SPECIAL-PURPOSE SEWING MACHINES TODAY.

THE MOST VALUABLE PART OF KREMS' MACHINE WAS THE NEEDLE HE DESIGNED FOR IT.  THIS NEEDLE HAD A EYE AT ITS TIP, AND IT WAS THIS TYPE OF NEEDLE WHICH LATER MADE POSSIBLE THE INVENTION OF THE LOCKSTITCHING SEWING MACHINE.  JOSEF MADERSPERGER, AN
AUSTRIAN TAILOR, USED TWO OF THESE EYE-POINTED NEEDLES IN HIS LAST MACHINE AROUND 1830.  THUS HE WAS THE FIRST TO PRODUCE A STITCH CLOSELY RESEMBLING A LOCKSTITCH.

THIS MACHINE, FOR WHICH MADERSPERGER WAS AWARDED A BRONZE MEDAL, SEWED ABOUT 200 STITCHES PER MINUTE.  DESPITE THIS SUCCESS AND THE AWARD MADE TO HIM BY THE EMPEROR OF AUSTRIA, NOBODY IN THIS COUNTRY OFFERED TO LEND THIS MODEST TAILOR A HELPING HAND.
FOR DECADES HE FOUGHT AGAINST PREJUDICE AND THE BUREAUCRACY OF HIS COUNTRY, BUT TO NO AVAIL.  UTTERLY IMPOVERISHED, HE FINALLY SOUGHT REFUGE AT AN ALMSHOUSE AND, ON HIS DEATH, WAS BURIED IN A MASS GRAVE.  SUCH WAS THE LIFE AND FATE OF A GIFTED SEWING MACHINE INVENTOR.

THE DESTINY OF THIMMONIER, A FRENCH SEWING MACHINE INVENTOR, WAS EQUALLY ILL-FATED.  ALTHOUGH UNTIL 1829 HE MANAGED TO BUILD AND SELL SOME 80 SEWING MACHINES MADE OF WOOD, HIS HOPES OF SUCCESS WERE SHATTERED BY TAILOR WHO, FOR FEAR OF LOSING THEIR LIVELIHOOD, DESTROYED HIS MACHINES AND REDUCED HIS WORKSHOP TO RUINS.
TO AVOID BEING KILLED BY THE EXCITED MOB, HE WAS FORCED TO FLEE FOR HIS LIFE . HE WAS ABLE TO SAVE JUST ONE MACHINE AND WITH THIS MACHINE TRAVELED THE FRENCH COUNTRYSIDE, DISPLAYING IF FOR A MODEST CHARGE TO GAPING CROWDS AT COUNTRY FAIRS.

AND HOW WAS THE AMERICAN ELIAS HOWE FARING IN 1845?
NOWADAYS HOWE IS GENERALLY REGARDED AS THE INVENTOR OF THE FIRST REALLY USABLE LOCKSTITCH SEWING MACHINE WITH A SHUTTLE.  ALTHOUGH THE AMERICANS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN QUICK TO ACCEPT LABOR-SAVING MACHINES, WHICH IS NOT THE NORMAL EUROPEAN ATTITUDE, ELIAS HOWE WAS FORCED TO SACRIFICE ALL HIS SAVINGS AND SUFFER GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT AT
THE START.  IT WAS NOT UNTIL OTHERS HAD SUCCEEDED IN MAKING THE MACHINE KNOWN AND POPULAR WITH THE PUBLIC THROUGH EFFECTIVE ADVERTISING AND HOWE HAD SECURED HIS PATENT RIGHTS IN A MAMMOTH TRIAL THAT HE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO ENJOY FAME AND WEALTH.
HOWEVER HE WAS NOTABLE TO ENJOY THIS GOOD FORTUNE FOR LONG BECAUSE THE MANY DISAPPOINTMENTS AND SACRIFICES HE HAD UNDERGONE IN HIS LIFE UNDERMINED HIS HEALTH AND ENERGY.

A MACHINE WHICH COULD SEW FIVE TIMES FASTER THAN THE BEST SEAMSTRESS OF THAT TIME HAD AT LAST BEEN INVENTED.  HOWEVER A CARTOON OF THAT PERIOD REFLECTS THE RELUCTANCE OF THE PEOPLE TO ACCEPT THE REVOLUTIONARY IDEA OF A MACHINE THAT SEWS.  IN SPITE OF THIS, INVENTORS AND MANUFACTURES PUSHED FORWARD WITH THEIR RELENTLESS ATTEMPTS TO IMPROVE THE SEWING MACHINE BECAUSE ALL WHO WERE FAMILIAR WITH THE PRINCIPLES OF THE FIRST SEWING MACHINE WERE CONVINCED THAT IT WOULD ONE DAY BE POSSIBLE TO SEW WITH EVEN LESS EFFORT AND, ABOVE ALL, FASTER.

THUS, AFTER COUNTLESS EXPERIMENTS, VARIOUS TYPES OF SHUTTLE AND HOOK SEWING MACHINES AND A LARGE VARIETY OF LOOPERS AND CHAINSTITCH SEWING MACHINES WERE INVENTED.  AN INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND PERFECTION OF THE LOCKSTITCH SEWING MACHINE WAS MADE IN 1852 BY A.B. WILSON, AN AMERICAN, WHO INVENTED THE ROTARY SEWING HOOK WITH FLOATING BOBBIN CASE.
TEN YEARS LATER, IN 1862, THE FIRST PFAFF SEWING MACHINE WAS MADE.  TODAY IT IS ONE OF THE EXHIBITS AT THE "DEUTSCHES MUSEUM" IN MUNICH. IN 1878 MAX GRITZNER INVENTED THE ROTARY HOOK WITH INTEGRATED BOBBIN CASE AND ....... IN 1887 PHILIPP DIEHL, AN AMERICAN BORN AT WORMS IN GERMANY, INVENTED THE OSCILLATING SHUTTLE, WHICH HAS BECOME VERY POPULAR ON DOMESTIC SEWING MACHINES.

THESE TYPE OF SEWING HOOKS AND SHUTTLES BECAME GENERALLY ACCEPTED AND ARE STILL PREFERRED TODAY.  MOE RECENTLY, THE ROTARY SEWING HOOK WITH INTEGRATED BOBBIN CASE HAS BECOME THE FASTEST AND MOST DURABLE. IN THE YEAR 1845 THE WORLD'S FIRST SHUTTLE SEWING MACHINE SEW 300 STITCHES PER MINUTE.  THE LATEST PFAFF ZIGZAG SEWING MACHINE FOR HOME USE SEWS MORE THAN 1000 STITCHES PER MINUTE.  A MODERN PFAFF HIGH SPEED SEAMER FOR THE CLOTHING INDUSTRY CAN EVEN ATTAIN A SPEED OF UP TO 7,000 STITCHES PER MINUTE. THE MODERN PFAFF HIGH-SPEED SEAMERS, MOSTLY FOR READY-MADE ARTICLES, REACH
SEWING SPEEDS OF UP TO 5,000 STITCHES PER MINUTE.

THE PFAFF TIPTRONIC 1071 IS ONE OF THE BEST PFAFF MACHINES.  IT SEWS PROFESSIONAL OVERLOCK SITICHES WITH PROTECTIVE EDGE THREAD, AND INCORPORATES QUITE A FEW NOTEWORTHY FEATURES SUCH AS BUILT-IN DUAL FEED, MICRO-ELECTRONICS, A WIDE RANGE OF UTILITY AND EMBROIDERY STITCHES AS WELL AS AN AUTOMATIC THREADER.

WHAT IS THE USE OF DUAL FEED?
AS THE FABRIC PLIES ARE FED FROM BELOW AND ABOVE SIMULTANEOUSLY THEY DO NOT SHIFT WHICH IS OF SPECIAL IMPORTANCE WHEN SEWING SLIPPERY MATERIAL OR FOR PATTERN-MATCHED SEWING.

PFAFF OF COURSE DO NOT ONLY SELL SEWING MACHINES BUT THE COMPLETE EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR WORK ROOMS, I. E. ANYTHING FROM WALL CUPBOARD AND WORK CHAIR TO CUTTING TABLE AND SEWING MACHINE AS WELL AS MANY OTHER ARTICLES.

WITH THE PFAFF CREATIVE, THE LATEST AND MOST VERSATILE OF ALL PFAFF DOMESTIC MACHINES, WE NOW COME TO THE END OF OUR SHORT EXPEDITION THROUGH THE HISTORY OF SEWING MACHINE.  WITH THE TOP MACHINE MODEL OF PFAFF, THE CREATIVE, SEWING IS A REAL JOY BECAUSE OPERATION IS SO EASY.  THE FACE PLATE OF THE MACHINE CONTAINS A LIST OF ALL SEWING PROGRAMS.  YOU SELECT A PROGRAM, ENTER IT INTO THE COMPUTER AND SEW IT.  EVEN THE FAMILIAR CROSS STITCH CAN BE SEWN AUTOMATICALLY ON THE PFAFF CREATIVE.

THESE ARE THE TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES OFFERED BY THIS SUPERB MACHINE:
*BUILT-IN DUAL FEED
*AUTOMATIC THREADER
*YOU CAN COMPILE YOUR OWN PROGRAM OF STITCHES
AS FAR AS THIS MACHINE IS CONCERNED THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO LIMITS TO YOUR IMAGINATION.

"Oh" by the way we are a green site these Pink Singer 221 & 222 machines are recycled from old original models of the Featherweight that have lost their luster or the paint is nearly gone in spots. Thanks and think green to save the earth.
If you have friends or family with this terrible disease you will be very supportive of my efforts in this project. I know what it takes to make a difference in someone's life.
The story of this beautiful little featherweight machine is a good one. It had a happy life with great owners. From the day it was born in about 1934 it has been used and stored by nice families who used it to make clothes, mend jeans and it was stored somewhere in a place it had a little moisture. It started to corrode where the paint was showing and that is where I came in. I bought the machine and sent it to “The Featherweight Factory” where it was stripped and corrosion preventive was used before painting. All the gears and parts were removed and reassembled after painting was complete. This little guy is ready to sew or be kept as a keepsake, whatever you are determined to do with it will be a further place in the history of this wonderful little Singer 221 featherweight. This machine was reconditioned partly as a donation to the Breast Cancer Research and to help produce the project of “Pink Singer Featherweight "Sheryl Lynn Oshel” and now for my daughter "Bobbi Oshel-Wegner". This is also a reminder, when people set their mind to fix something metal, medical or psychological it can happen. If you believe in yourself, your doctor and God, things will go the way your life is supposed to go.

My website was built to help with a project of the Little Pink Singer Featherweight. I am working on this project to help with the research for a cure for breast cancer. The Pink Featherweight sewing machines started selling this year and donations to the Susan G. Koman and other cancer foundations for the research of this horrible desease will be a part of this project. Look at my Pink Featherweight Page to learn more about that project.
Singer 221 as your can guess "Pink". Collecting the Singer 221 is and has been a very value conserving venture. These machines have never went down in price. These machines are very nice and all original except for the pink paint. The carrying case is a reproduction and instruction is a reproduction. The machine has no reproduction parts on it. It is a 1934 AD machine. You will love this beautiful little gal and a donation will be given to a cancer research fund to help in the advance of cancer research. It takes a lot of research money to find a cure and they are making progress. Cancer hits all of us as you will discover if you read below "Pink Singer STORY".
PLEASE ASK ME ABOUT THE LITTLE PINK FEATHERWEIGHT AND AVAILABILITY AT duanesechser@hotmail.com or test/call 605-359-8939.
THANK YOU!

Breast Cancer & The Little Pink Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine Breast cancer research takes the help of people like you and I. What is the pink featherweight I guess I can safely say it is a symbol of what I perceive to be a way for me to help in the fight of breast cancer. We have a great Featherweight repaint shop we decided to use that uses the same process we were going to use repainting our machines. I want to thank a great person for this repainting job and give them all the credit at this time for helping on this project as he also had a person with breast cancer in his family. I do not want the memory of a great sister to die, she is gone now and has been since the late 70’s and I hope I can make her memory live on and put her name on every little pink featherweight that I reclaim from the ranks of the distroy pile or one that has had lots of use and just needs the touch of love by someone who cares.Breast Cancer became real for me in 1975 when my sister found a lump in her breast. She trusted me and asked me questions about things because I had been out in the world so to speak, even though she was a year older than I was. I just left home at an early age and went on my own. I joined the service in 1963 and was there for 4 years. I had been through 1 divorce and I had traveled. I was not afraid of anything and she felt she could ask me things to help her solve problems. She had asked me about the lump, at that time breast cancer was not a house hold name. I really did not know much about the subject. I did give her an answer though, I said the lump was probably a strain or maybe she had hit something and it would probably go away. Well it didn’t and she said it was getting larger a few months later. She asked if I thought she should have it checked. Now by that time they had been talking more and more about breast cancer or I had just started noticing the news more on the subject. Breast cancer awareness was being talked about. She decided to wait until her insurance kicked in and there was no question about whether it would pay for her problem and her life insurance would pay for her house if she didn’t make it. She waited for a few more months and it started to grow and leak. She asked my wife to take a look at it, when she did my wife said you have to get in right away and have a doctor look at that. Her breast had orange peal look to it and at that point had a huge lump. She went to the doctor and of course he told her that she needed to have that removed right away. They removed it and started giving her radiation treatments and Kemo. She had some good days and some bad days for about 2 years and then she started getting really sick. I almost did not recognize her when I came to visit her, which I almost could not do. Seeing her go from a beautiful young women to a sick, week lady was about to kill me. I regret to this day for not spending more time with her in her last days. After she died I was so hurt for 2 years and my life was like it was in limbo. It took me a long time to get over her death. She had 4 great kids and they came to live with us about a year after her death. Their father committed suicide in there garage a year after her death. The kids and our family got along as good as could be expected with all of the things going on in all of our lives. Now it is 2006 and all is well with all of the kids, my wife and I. We have 15 grand children and I have 1 great grandchild. Her children are all doing well and live all over the US. I wanted to do something in her honor and all of the other wonderful young women I have known with that terrible disease who have lost their life at a young age. I have always help support the breast cancer cause. Mostly when we hold waffle feeds at our retirement communities with the proceeds going to Susan G. Koman or other breast cancer funds. I wanted to do more and I came up with the idea of the Little Pink Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine for my fight of breast cancer. I am going to contribute a portion of each sale of these little wonders to that cause. The awareness comes in from the people in quilters culbs, sewing teachers, crafts makers and collectors that purchase and talk about there little pink singer featherweight sewing machine.Who are the bravest people in the world, I think I know after witnessing a person that I know to be one of the bravest people I had the honor of ever knowing, my sister Sheryl Lynn Oshel. The crime was theft and it had taken the perfect sister at the age of thirty three. If you have gone through the loss of a person in your life that you loved and respected a great deal, do to breast cancer, you will relate to this effort and to the Little Pink Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine. I will also sell it on Ebay and if you go to Ebay and read my about me page you will discover I am just an ordinary person trying to make a difference in our great society. Visit my website and feel free to look at my ads that interest you from that site. It pays me every time someone clicks on one of my ads and that will help keep my site growing. This story is of a great sister and the reason why I am buying up all of the Singer featherweight sewing machines that have real bad scratches and corrosion. I will not destroy one of these little collector sewing machines. I am rebuilding them and selling them with a donation on each sale going to the fight on breast cancer. It started with a friend of mine who actually collected featherweights as a hobby, in fact she collected different kinds of sewing machines. She at one time had a collection of around 200 sewing machines. She is an antique doll collector and has been an author of several books. She is a wonderful lady that is very knowledgeable about many subjects, one of them being the featherweight. She has several models like the little child’s singer sewing machine, the 24-66 chain stitch, on to the 221’s, 222’s, 301’s and so on. Why is this done? Where do I fit into the breast cancer pink featherweight project. I reclaim this sewing machine in the name of my sister Sheryl Lynn. My father was a sewing machine man all of his life. He worked for several dealers including Singer where he was a top salesman for years. He also was one of the best repairmen in the business and I went with him from the time I was old enough to walk. We would go into a small town to repair ladies sewing machines back in the early 1950’s and as we repaired one they would call their friends to let them know there was a sewing machine man in town. In the meanwhile we sold a few machines by word of mouth. Well when I was about four years old dad would bring home old sewing machines for me to take apartment and put back together. I guess I thought they were toys and got pretty good at fixing them. When I was in middle school I would work in the evening in the repair department of an appliance store doing repairs on sewing machines like Singer, Necchi, Elna, Pfaff, Viking, Brother, White, Sear Kenmore and a host of other brands. So why reclaim the Singer Featherweight and make it even more collectible. The Singer featherweight is the most versatile small sewing machines in a light weight portable on the market today. It first appeared on October 3, 1933 and was still being made up in to the late 60’s a run of about 35 years. They have sold more of these little cuties than any other models of the Singer. They not only sew a great straight stitch, but do it quietly, with very little maintenance. They are light weight to carry around and small enough to put in your car for taking to school, sewing clubs, collector’s shows or just take to a friends house to sew. Doll collectors, quilters, and sewing machine collectors love this little featherweight because it can be traced by its original serial numbers that verifies its origin. I am here to reclaim the cosmetics of the featherweight that has been setting where there has been moister present causing corrosion and there are also cases where the machines have just been scratched all up and needs a face lift. I also know more about the running and stitch of these little machines than others in the sewing machine industry. If you buy one of these Little Pink Singer Featherweight Sewing Machines you are going to get a sewing machine that has a guarantee to sew great and be almost like it came from the factory. Of course if the model has a very unique serial number we would leave it all original even though it was scratched up. If you have one of these in poor condition we will be happy to buy it to fix-up and make it look like knew again. Just email me at bobbyoshel@aol.com Let me know how much you are asking for your machine or if you want to donate your machine to the breast cancer fund. Call or text 605-359-8939I am going to take the Singer Featherweight and paint it pink with a signature of Sheryl Lynn and a collector number on it to validate it. It will of course have the original serial number on it to show the original date and place the machine was made. By this we can validate that they are the Sheryl Lynn and originally repainted for the breast cancer research as a collector model. You will be given a story of what we know about the sewing machine if we get it from the original owner. You will get a copy of this story and a great thanks from us, the Susan G Koman breast cancer foundation and any other cancer foundation the money is given to. You will also get a certificate of authenticity and I am not sure how many of these machine will be the final number of the Sheryl Lynn collection at this time. As I start this project that number will given out. This is a story about the love between a sister and a brother. Sheryl Lynn Oshel and Bobby Oshel. She was the little smiling face girl that everyone loved, the person that would do anything for anyone. Sheryl Lynn had more friends by accident than most people have on purpose. She would do things, others just talked about and do them with perfection. In fact if she could not do them with perfection I would have a hard time convincing her to do it at all.The rest of the story begins in a little town in Kansas called Hays at a hospital in the early part of the year 1945. She was moved around for her first 6 or so years. Her father in the army and mother a young woman working to help the war effort. Sheryl started school in Valley, NE and quickly moved to a small town in central Nebraska called Rockville. She went to about the 6th grade and was in plays, majorettes and band. She was on TV several times with 4-H and other things like the Harvest of Harmony Parade in Grand Island, NE. She then moved to Blair for a few years. Finally ending up her schooling in Fremont, NE. and there she lived until she married in 1962. I was young and trying to figure out where I fit in the picture of this world. Her and her husband and moved to western Nebraska and worked for ranchers after getting married. As a young man I followed them to the ranch to work. I then went to the service when Vietnam was heating up and spent the next 4 years serving Uncle Sam. She had several other children in western Nebraska and then moved Indiana where her husband was from. When I got out of the service I went to live with them and I went to work for an Independent Singer dealer called Benell Singer of Monticello, Indiana. She and her family moved back to Nebraska and her husband worked for the Department of Utilities. That was where she became ill and found a lump in her breast. This is for my sister who lost her struggle with breast cancer in the 1970’s shortly after my son turned 4 years old. In honor and memory of Sheryl Lynn (Oshel) Shelton born February 22, 1945 died 1978 leaving a husband and 4 children. Her family was lost from the death of their mother and wife. They were trying to recoup by buying a new house and moving to another part of town. They went through a year of hell and then losing their father with him taking his life in his garage in the new home. She told me one time that she supposed that they will find a cure about ten years after her death and that search is still going on almost 30 years later. They have made some great progress in the early detection but have not yet found a complete cure. I am starting this project to continue the struggle she left when she passed away. We will try to make a difference to all of the other young women out there that are struggling with and overcoming this terrible disease. How is it done We take a little Singer featherweight that is showing corrosion or very badly scratched and strip it down to bare metal. This process takes us about a day and it is messy but worth the trouble. It looks like a new little machine after we start the process of painting. Oh did I mention that I had a 6 stall body shop in MN for a few years. That gave me the expertise to paint and the knowledge of what process to follow to reclaim this small little wonderful sewing machine. Then we put on the pink and that takes us 2 or three coats. We get the striping from an Ebay auction which we found and made us further want to start this project. The stripes are applied and the signature of Sheryl Lynn by proxy namely me, along with a collector number for validation. Then we put some clear coats of paint on for a final finish and you have a “Little Pink Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine Called Sheryl Lynn Number # “. Signed, sealed and numbered along with this letter of authenticity to keep with the machine. This will serve as reminder knowing you have helped in the fight of breast cancer. You will also get the best little Singer featherweight to use and make clothes, or mend with you could ever ask for. Professionally rebuilt by a Singer sewing machine man with years of experience in the rebuilding, sales and repair of one of these beautiful little sewing machines.I tried not to make this story to long but I wanted to let people know just what a great sister I had and that I loved her to a point that I was willing to do almost anything for her. I can’t bring her back but her memory will live on with each note that comes with one of these “Little Pink Singer Featherweight Sewing Machines Called Sheryl Lynn”. 30 Years Later and Dealing with Breast Cancer AgainDate 11-25-2007Today I start on a new reason for working on this worth while project. My daugter just 31 years old is dealing with this terrible problem. She has just went through and operation and now she is in her forth treatment on Kemo. She is dealing with this in a very positive frame of mind. She has three wonderful little boys the youngest is not 2 years old yet. That helps to keep her mind off what she has just gone through. I feel gutless compared to anyone that is dealing with this in their life. It is improtant to remember that the young women with this problem are taking care of a family and working, all while getting Kemo, loosing their hair, being tired, dealing with holidays and dealing with the emotional aspects of breast removal. How do you ever help someone like this. Well it seems that there are some great people left in the world yet. Her neighborhood brought over the evening meal for several weeks and help get the kids to school. One of the neighbors took over the fundraiser my daughter was doing for a playground at the school her son attends. What a wonderful place for her to live, in an around neighbors like these. If anyone reads this part of my website and have the time you might drop her a line to let her know she is in your prayers and if you have had this same problem let her know that your supporting her. Cards are nice if you have one around. I will thank you in advanceWhat has happened in the last 30 years, I think some progress in medicine has made treatment a lot better. Still we are looking at early detection as the most important number one way to beat this problem. It is alarming how many young ladies are diagnosed with breast cancer today. What is the answer to the cure, I am hoping that more people join the fight to find a way to help all ladies with this.Bob OshelNEW UPDATE

Home-SEWING MACHINE SALES/SERVICESEWING MACHINE ISSUES AND INFORMATIONREPLACE DOUBLE LEAD FOOT CONTROL CORD/POWER CORD

REPLACE THE DOULBE LEAD POWER CORD ON SEWING MACHINES

IF YOUR MACHINE HAS A FOOT CONTROL CONNECTED TO THE 3 PRONG PLUG AND YOU WANT TO DISCONNECT IT AND PUT ON A DOUBLE LEAD CORD.

TAKE THE SCREW OUT OF THE 3 PRONG PLUG THEN REMOVE THE BLACK #2 CENTER POST NUT AND REMOVE THE FOOT CONTROL WIRE, MAKE SURE TO LEAVE THE MOTOR WIRE CONNECTED AND PUT THE NUT BACK ON AND TIGHTEN.

TAKE THE YELLOW #3 RIGHT NUT OFF AND REMOVE THE FOOT CONTROL WIRE AND BE SURE TO LEAVE THE LIGHT WIRE CONNECTED AND PUT THE NUT BACK ON THE YELLOW POST. TAKE THE SCREW AND 3 PRONG PLUG AND PUT BACK ON MACHINE.

NOW TAKE THE DOUBLE LEAD CORD AND CONNECT THE 2 ENDS WITH ROUND RINGS TO THE FOOT CONTROL.  TAKE THE 4 SCREWS ONE ON EACH CORNER UNDER THE RUBBER CUSHIONS ON BOTTOM OF FOOT CONTROL, MAKE SURE FOOT CONTROL IS UNPLUGGED.  YOU MAY NEED TO USE YOUR SCREW DRIVE TO PRY THE BOTTOM OFF ROM THE TOP, BE SURE ALL SCREWS ARE REMOVED.

TAKE THE OLD WIRE ENDS OFF BY LOOSENING THE SCREWS THEN TAKE THE ENDS OF THE NEW CORD AND CONNECT TO THE SCREW POST, DOESN'T MATTER WHICH WIRE GOES ON WHICH POST THEY ARE THE SAME.  TIGHTEN SCREWS, YOU MAY NEED A SMALL WASHER SINCE THE NEW WIRE ENDS MAY BE A LITTLE THIN AND CAUSE THE SCREW NOT TO TIGHTEN ON IT.

YOU THEN NEED TO FEED THE WIRE TO THE AREA THAT THE WIRE COMES OUT OF THE FOOT CONTROL (ON BACK BUTTOM RIGHT) MAKE SURE THE RUBBER CUSHIONS ARE ON WHEN YOU PUT THE FOOT CONTROL BACK TOGETHER.  PUT SCREWS IN AND TIGHTEN AND YOU ARE READY TO USE, JUST PLUG THE RUBBER PLUG IN TO RECEPTICAL 3 PRONG PLUG AND WALL PLUG-IN.

HERE IS SOME ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS ABOUT THE NEEDLE SIZE & THREAD TO USE WITH
YOUR SINGER 306, 319 AND SIMILAR Machines Where can I get a chart for 319w
needle size and thread size?
 thank you,
 duane
Dear Mr. Sechser,

Thank you for writing Singer. This household machine uses standard Singer
needles. You can use a 2020 for woven fabrics and a 2045 for knits. Most
commonly used size is a 14 for medium weight. Lighter fabrics could use
either a 9 or 11. Denim uses size 16.

Please use general purpose weight thread. This type of thread is available
at chain retailers such as Hancocks and JoAnn Fabrics as well as your local
sewing retailer. Make sure not to use quilting weight threads in the
machine as it will effect the tension.

Hello, are you one of the many that are having problems with getting your thread tension set proper or having trouble getting the top thread tension adjusted to the correct tightness or setting.  I have helped several people in finding out what their problem was and most to the point of just putting the machine back in storage because they just could not get it to work.

I had a lady who had not sewed in many years, she purchased a machine from me and when she got it she set it up and began to sew.  She noticed that the top thread tension was not tight and so she adjusted the tension but it stayed the same so she went back through the manual step by step and could not find the problem.  Now she was ready to pull her hair out, she emailed me and I gave a few suggestions, still she was having problems, so I suggested a few other things, to make a long story short, it ws that she had put the bobbin in backwards.

I am going to tell you a few things to check if you are having thread tenison issues.

1.   Thread weight in spool and bobbin may cause tension to be different need to be same weightMake s

2.   Make sure you have the machine threaded correctly

3.  Make sure thread is going through the wire or spring correct on tension

4.  Make sure needle is inserted correct flat side of needle facing correct direction for the machine you are using (they are different) and that it is a new needle not an old needle these issues can cause skip stitches and other problems.

5.   Make sure the little finger on rotary is in space on bottom of needle plate on the singer 221 featherweight, this can cause all kind of problem.

6.   When putting the bobbin in the bobbin case make sure you put the bobbin in so the thread comes off bobbin counterclock wise and the the thread is pulled into the slot on the spring of the bobbin case, if this is  not correct it will cause loose stitches because the spring is not doing its job.  You may also need to adjust the little screw on the bobbin case and I have received machines and the bobbin case has build-up inside the case and causing the bobbin not to turnm freely.

There are a lot of little things that can cause your tension no to work correctly and cause loose stitches, skip stitches, thread to bunch up, so remember to look for these little things and if you are still having problems make sure your machine is clean and that the rotary, bobbin case, thread tension, parts are not missing or have broken parts. I had one machine that the hook on the rotary had a very little piece of the hook broken off.  If you still can not figure it out, I am willing to give it a shot, just email me or give me a call.

Hello, if you are reading this you are having more problems and you have adjusted the thread tension as far as it will go and the thread is still bunching up on the bottom of the material.  You're really flustered and ready to pack it up, well I am going to try and walk you through ways to fix th is problem.  We have to remember that it is a machine and needs to be cleaned and maintained same as any machine.  You take your car in and have it looked at and have a tune-up so that it runs smooth and gets you from point A to B right?

1.  Check to make sure machine is threaded correctly, make sure you have the thread in the disc going around and up through the take-up and down through the thread guides.

2.  Check needle, some of singer machines insert with the flat side of needle faces front of (Pictures from 1941 Singer Manual) machine, 15-, 201-2, 221, 222, 301, and other and the 66, 99, and a few others are opposite, and make sure needle is new, has no hooks, tip is not flat.

  1. Check rotary that the finger is in space on bottom side of needle plate

(B2 and A2)

(Pictures from 1941 Manual Singer Manufacturing Co.)  and that the rotary hook is in great conditionand is free of thread. You may have to loosen the two set screw and remove rotary and take apart to
remove any thread that may be wrapped around it and put a drop of sewing machine oil on the moving
parts attach back to machine.

Make sure bobbin in bobbin case correct drawing string clockwise off of bobbin. Sew a few stitcheswith tension set around 3 ½ - 4 on setting, if you still have thread bunching up on bottom side ofmaterial we need to concentrate on the thread tension assembly. When you lift the presser footlever to up position does the thread tension release? Check your spring does it have good tension oris it weak? When you turn the dial does it turn all the way or does it catch in spots before turning from0-9? Ok, if all these check out and are working what we do next, I have found that the thread tensionis a touchy part we may need to take it off the machine and clean & re-adjust it.

Take off the face plate and loosen the set screw, take off the little screw holding the chrome threadguide to the tension assembly and take a screw driver and insert into tension with fingers pull lightly
towards you while turning tension back and forth with screw driver (If your not comfortable doing thisthen you may have to take to repair shop) until you have it removed.

The first thing to do is if you have a manual, get it out it has a picture of the tension and its parts.  Have this handy in case you are unsure of how it goes back together.  Now, since you haveit out clean the machine area of the tension first then take apart the assembly by unscrewing the thumb nut and lay ou the parts in the order they cam off so you get it right when you put back on.

Clean the parts as needed from dirt, oil build-up, and if your not comfortable doing this take it to a repair shop.  When you have cleaned it and all parts look to be in good shape put back together but before putting back in your machine check the spring "T" to make sure there is some tension and that it is working correctly.

If it doesn't feel to have any tension or is light you can pull the spring up and adjust the left one tooth as needed.

I just had a machine that I was sewing with and when I turned over the material I was sewing, the top thread had made a mess on the bottom sside.  I adjusted the spring and fixed the problem and the machine sews great now.  If your machine is clean unlike this tension which as you can see is dirty and needs to be cleaned but adjusting the spring fixed the machine.  There are so many things that can cause problems and you just need to take the time and clean and adjust these parts and your ready to sew.

There is one more thing if this doesn't fix the problem the part "E".  I have seen the center of these bent out and is causing the tension pin "J" not to protrude out far enough to work proper and may need replacing.  This usually happens from pulling up to hard on the presser foot release lever.  Take it off machine and lay on bench take a small punch and lightly tap it towards the direction of the machine will fix the problem but be sure not to hit to hard or you will break it.  I hope this was helpful!
